RRSA Rights Respecting Schools Award work 2023-24

We will be using this area for our RRSA activities and work

November 22

As part of our outright campaign, we invited Chris Bryant into class to ask him questions on how the government is going to improve the health care systems in the Rhondda and the UK. The children came up with thoughtful and mature questions. A huge thank you to Chris who gave us lots of information and shared some proposals on how they were going to achieve this. An even bigger well done to our children for advocating for better health care services for everyone in the Rhondda.

Outright Project 22/23

This year we are taking part in the UNICEF's Outright Project to speak out on Children's rights to good health care.

Dosbarth 6 and the School Ambassadors will be taking part in activities to discuss, compare and identify the importance and any issues with Children's health care, locally and around the world.

WHAT IS A RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL?

The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.

A rights-respecting school is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practiced, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.

UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools are required to implement four evidence-based standards.

  • Rights-respecting values underpin leadership and management.
  • The whole school community learns about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • The school has a rights-respecting ethos.
  • Children are empowered to become active citizens and learners.

Our children created their own class charters, incorporating elements of the UN charter for children. Each class talked through their own charter of rights and how these rights also have responsibilities. The charter is agreed in each class and put into practice.  Throughout our school and with parents we will create a rights respecting ethos which will add and emphasise the values we already uphold at Trealaw Primary.

The UN charter of children’s rights is in two versions, a summary version and a children’s version, here are both:

Trealaw Primary School are proud to be a SILVER Rights ‘Respecting School’. This is the second highest award given to schools by UNICEF, a leading organisation for children and their rights, we are now working towards the GOLD award. The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) Is based on the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of the school’s ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. Our school is a community where children’s rights are lived, learned and understood.

Robbie the Rights Respecting Robot

Hi,

We are the rights squad, we help to make sure everyone is aware of the children's rights in school and in our wider community

Did you know:

There are 54 rights in total

The A.B.C.D.E of rights are:

A-all children all around the world have rights

B-all children are born with rights

C-any rights can not be taken away

D-none of the rights do not have to be earned

E-each right is equal

It is important that everyone, especially children, are aware of these Rights, to keep us safe and healthy and to make sure we become the best we can be!
